Day 5 Carces to Les Arcs 19 miles 909ft

We'll we're back to plan B,  it's far too hot to cycle after mid day, in fact it's really too hot to do anything in the afternoon other than stay in the shade and sweat a lot. The forecast is to stay as hot, or hotter. until at least the end of this week so we decided yesterday afternoon that we'd be better coming home early and making the most of the rest of our holiday back in Scotland,
So it was up and away by 7.30 this morning on a comfortable 23 degrees and had a lovely cycle back to the station at Les Arcs.  The temperature was up to 33 by 9.30 and officially roasting by the time we got to the station.
We had no problems getting our bikes on to the train to Nice, and we were able to easily change our easyJet booking online for a flight home tonight.
After a leisurely lunch in Nice we got to the airport on loads of time to get the bikes and Panniers packaged up.
Again we had absolutely no problems getting the bikes checked in for our flight
Unlike this optimistic chap we saw wrapping his complete bike,  peddles on and handlebars still on normal position.  He was even trying to wrap it with the panniers still on.
He was later spotted buying a cardboard bike box.

It has been great to be back on the touring bikes again,  Provence has been  beautiful and we've been reminded how much we enjoy traveling through small French villages. But unfortunately it's just been too hot 🔥
It has been short and sweaty but we'll be back. ( maybe not in August).

The main question now is where we'll get to in the campervan next week.

  1. Sorry to hear it's getting too hot there. Bring some o it home here please, we continue to have a lousy summer. Thanks for the link, I am enjoying the posts and photos.

  2. I forgot to mention that when we were waiting in the queue for check in there was a guy just ahead of us who looked a bit familiar. He was wearing full Ineos Grenadiers kit and had an Ineos Grenadiers bike case with him. I'm sure he kept looking at our bikes wrapped in flimsy nylon bags and was thinking that's how he should have packed his bike.
I've just had a look at the Grenadiers Website and it turns out it was Egan Bernal, previous winner of the Tour de France and Giro D'Italia.
